Reversible posterior white matter encephalopathy complicated with cerebral hemorrhage after orthotopic liver transplantation

چکیده
Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES) is a well-known but uncommon clinical syndrome with acute neurological phenomenon leading to destroying of the blood brain barrier and vasogenic edema on brain imaging. Studies showed PRES occurred in about 1% of liver transplant recipients within 3 months postoperatively. In this paper we reported a case of 43 year-old woman who received orthotopic liver transplantation and reversible posterior white matter encephalopathy occurred 3 d after surgery, complicated with cerebral hemorrhage. Since the lack of clinical data, this report may give additional contribution to the understanding of PRES.

Pheochromocytoma is a rare cause of hypertension in children. Hypertension is one of the common reasons of posterior reversible encephalopathy. Intracerebral hemorrhage is a serious and unexpected complication of hypertensive encephalopathy due to pheochromocytoma, and very rarely seen in the childhood. Intracerebral hemorrhages should be searched if there are hypertensive reversible signal cha...

Figure 1. Cerebral magnetic resonance imaging showed a wide signal intensity abnormality involving the fronto-parietal and occipital cortex as well as the subcortical white matter. A 17-year-old girl with chronic myeloid leukemia that transformed to acute myeloid leukemia was referred to our department to undergo umbilical cord blood stem cell transplantation. Conditioning consisted of fludarab...

INTRODUCTION Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome is a clinico-neuroradiological entity characterized by headache, vomiting, altered mental status, blurred vision and seizures with neuroimaging studies demonstrating white-gray matter edema involving predominantly the posterior region of the brain. CASE PRESENTATION We report a 47-year-old Caucasian man with liver cirrhosis who develop...
متن کاملRegional distribution of cerebral white matter lesions years after preeclampsia and eclampsia.
OBJECTIVE To assess the distribution of cerebral white matter lesions in women who had eclampsia, preeclampsia, or normotensive pregnancies. The pathophysiology of these lesions, more often seen in formerly eclamptic and preeclamptic women, is unclear but may be related to a predisposition for vascular disease, the occurrence of the posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome, or both while pr...
متن کاملMR imaging of reversible cyclosporin A-induced neurotoxicity.
Neurotoxicity is a recognized complication of cyclosporin A (CsA) therapy in patients undergoing organ transplantation. It is most commonly manifested by fever, seizures, and altered mental status. Cortical blindness and speech and motor disturbances can also occur. Changes seen in cerebral white matter on imaging studies are nonenhancing areas of hypoattenuation on CT and T2 prolongation on MR...
